FLINT YOUTH THEATRE TO HOLD AUDITIONS FOR “TURNING POINTS”, AN FYT ORIGINAL PLAY

Flint Youth Theatre announces open auditions and technical interviews for Turning Points. Written by FYT Associate Artistic Director, Walter Hill and FYT Executive Artistic Director, William P. Ward, Turning Points will be directed by Hill and performed on the FYT stage October 7 through November 3. Auditions and technical interviews are open to all students in grades 7 and above and will be held Tuesday, August 23 from 6:30 P.M. to 9:30 P.M. with check-in beginning after 6:00 P.M. All auditions and interviews will take place at FYT, 1220 East Kearsley Street in the Flint Cultural Center, using FYT’s Main Entrance.

Turning Points is an exciting FYT original script using personal experiences gathered from community dialogue workshops, interviews and other sources. These stories will be combined with evocative images, dance and music to create a theatrical experience encouraging discoveries about transitions from one stage of life to another. Contrasting myth, history and the rites of other cultures with today’s contemporary American rites of passage, Turning Points will remind us how we metaphorically die and are reborn many times during our lives.

Those auditioning must wear a loose shirt, sweat pants, tennis shoes and have hair pulled back. No skirts, jeans or head coverings. FYT is committed to ethnically diverse companies.

Rehearsals for Turning Points will begin Monday, August 29. Performances of Turning Points will run for four weeks from October 7 through November 3. For further information about auditions, interviews or performances call FYT at 810-237-1530.

Turning Points will be choreographed by FYT Associate Artist, Margaret A. Mead-Finizio and co-designed by FYT Executive Artistic Director, William P. Ward and FYT Artistic Director Designate, Jeremy Winchester. The large company will include FYT Resident Artists, Guests Artists and student actors and stage crew.

FYT’s production of Turning Points is generously sponsored by Charles Stewart Harding Foundation.

Kearsley Street is currently closed for improvements. When you come to FYT to attend auditions and interviews, please use the Crapo Street entrance, just southwest of FYT, between the Flint Public Library and the old Central High School. Please call FYT at 810-237-1530 if you have any questions.
