FYT’S 2012-2013 SEASON OPENS WITH THE TIMELESS ADVENTURE OF “PETER PAN”

Peter Pan is the first production in FYT’s 2012-2013 Signature Series and is on stage from Friday, July 13 through Saturday, July 28.

Adventure. Intrigue. Jealousy. Focusing on Peter and Hook, Wendy and Tinker Bell, deadly pirates and an even deadlier crocodile, FYT re-introduces audiences to the complex original story in this bold new adaptation of Peter Pan.

Peter Pan performances are Friday, July 13, 20 and 27, Saturday, July 14, 21 and 28 at 7:30 P.M. and Friday, July 20, Sunday, July 22, Thursday, July 26 and Friday, July 28 at 2:30 P.M. An Opening Night Reception will follow the July 13 performance and a conversation with the creative team will follow the July 14, 22 and 27 shows. Performances are at Flint Youth Theatre, 1220 East Kearsley Street, on the campus of the Flint Cultural Center.

Advance tickets for Peter Pan are $12 for children, $14 for teens and senior citizens and $16 for adults and are available at Flint Youth Theatre, by calling 810.237.1530 or online at FlintYouthTheatre.org. Day of performance tickets are $14 for children, $16 for teens and senior citizens and $18 for adults.

Peter Pan will be directed by Executive Artistic Director, Jeremy Winchester.  Reflecting on themes at the heart of the story, Winchester commented, “Barrie’s classic play is like the rich, damp cake Captain Hook describes in Act II. It is sweet, and complex, and dangerous. And like layers on a cake, it deals in the divide; the divide between children and adults, between boys and girls, between the comforts of home and the excitement of adventure.”

Production design for Peter Pan is by Resident Artists Rodney Creech (Sound/Choreography design) and Donald Robert Fox (Scene design) and Guest Artists Michael Beyer (Lighting design) and Donna Buckley (Costume design).  Other members of the Peter Pan production company include: Resident Artists, Deirdre S. Baker, Bary Lehr and Jean McDaniel; FYT Guest Artists, Kevin Dzurak, Stuart J. Elzy, Anthony Guest, Brian Haggard, Charlene Pierson, Gene Oliver and Cheryl Voracheck and 27 Apprentices and students.

On May 12, open auditions and technical interviews for Peter Pan were held for area students in grades 5 through 12 from Flint and Genesee County. Of the students who auditioned, 20 were selected to be part of the Peter Pan student company. The selected students are part of a cast and stage crew totaling 44.

Peter Pan is sponsored by MLive/The Flint Journal. Flint Youth Theatre’s 2012-2013 Signature Series, Building Bridges, is sponsored with funds received from the donor-advised fund program at the Funding Exchange.
