Don’t let the name fool you; Urinetown isn’t a show swirling around potty humor. This Tony Award–winning musical takes place in a Gotham-like city where an epic 20-year drought has brought an unprecedented water shortage, as well as drastic measures. The Government has outlawed private privies, and one merciless company has sole control over the public toilets, taxing citizens’ bladders, literally, by charging a fee… to pee.
Yet another fee hike spurs an unlikely hero into action for a head-to-head battle with the greedy corporate fat cat. Will he bring relief to his people or end up in dreaded Urinetown?
Prior to the October 27 performance, a special Celebration of Life will be held 6pm–7pm in the Theatre, to honor the life and legacy of Associate Professor Stephen Landon who passed away unexpectedly in July.
